Holiday Wrap - 2022
What a start to the season it has been! We hardly had any snow at mid and lower elevations in mid-December. Then, a series of snow cycles, starting on December 11th, arrived. This has left us with extensive snowpack throughout our expansive terrain.
It’s no secret that we always have excellent early season skiing in our remote terrain in the Western Smoky Mountains. However, these storms have left us with some of the most diverse local terrain that we have had in many years this early in the season.
We flew our first commercial group on December 21, during a break between snow cycles. We went over the Baker Creek Divide to the Western Smokys to a zone we call Paradise. For those of you who have been there, you know why we call it Paradise! The skiing was excellent, with boot to knee deep pristine Idaho pow. What a way to start the season!
But wait ... the snow came back again!! After a few down days, we were able to get out for just one day before the next storm cycle reared its beautiful head. After a few more down days during the Holiday Week, we were scrambling trying to rebook clients into an already full calendar.
Finally, the skies cleared and we were able to see this beautiful Valley that we live in again. We flew the next four days and once again experienced that Idaho POW, except this time it was DEEP at times. We even got our toes wet in the Eastern Boulders by skiing Balcom Ridge with its amazing 3,000 feet of peak to creak vertical. Pretty special to say the least.
We are now in our next storm cycle and are once again waiting for the skies to clear so we can get in the air again for everybody. It looks like this weekend will be amazing.
